You may already know about the kids movie coming out in December starring Nicole Kidman. It’s called The Golden Compass, and while it will be a watered down version, it is based on a series of children’s books about killing God (It is the anti-Narnia).

From what I understand, the hope is to get a lot of kids to see the movie – which won’t seem too bad – and then get the parents to buy the books for their kids for Christmas. The quotes from the author sum it all up. I hope it totally bombs because we were all paying attention!

** I should clarify… I didn’t write this post.  I literally copied and pasted it.  I personally haven’t read this book.  I enjoy Harry Potter and things of that sort.  This is all to start a dialogue. **

In all honesty, I have to say this is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time. It’s not the best Hollywood movie (meaning, it definitely doesn’t have all the bells and whistles to keep me “entertained”) but it was by far the best movie, IMHO, because in the end, it made me look at myself with real eyes. It also helps that I’m a sucker for “Based-on-a-true-story” movies… and that Will Smith is… well… Will Smith.

Usually, you go to a movie to escape reality and enter into some weird fairy tale land for 2 hours or so. You come out and think, “Man, I’m fat!” or “Man, I’m ugly!” or “I need a better wardrobe!” or “Someday Brad Pitt will ditch Angelina Jolie and find me!”. But this movie made me THINK.

On our way to the car, I asked Brian, “What did you think?”
His reply: “I think I’m pretty lazy!”

I thought the same thing. I’m not going to give you details on this movie in case you haven’t seen it yet and still want to… but my main thought was this: “MAN!!! I have it GOOD! God has blessed me! I am going to stop complaining!”

I would highly recommend this movie. Do not expect Hollywood! If you want to be entertained, go see Happy Feet, but if you want to be challenged… if you want to really think about who you are and what your full potential could be… watch The Pursuit of Happyness.

We watched this at the perfect time of the year… the time of new beginnings. Question: What will I be pursuing??? Hmmm… more to come, folks… more to come!
