holly... i'm sorry you've been offended by Central Christian. i find it fascinating what people get offended over... probably because i am offended over very little.

i won't speak for CCC since i don't go there... i don't even live in the area... but i do have a question for you: do you feel that secular music can't be used to glorify God?

in my experience, i've seen God pull the lost to Him in even more "sinful" ways than secular music. i think CCC and other churches that use secular music isn't trying to be a PART of the world as much as allow the world to feel accepted into God's Kingdom. the songs you have listed have no evil in their lyrics... in fact, i find myself rocking out around my christmas tree to worship music as well as secular music.

let me know if i'm wrong, but to me, it sounds as if you've wrapped yourself up more in what CCC isn't doing to your liking than what they are really getting done for the Kingdom in winning the lost over to Christ. i wonder if you would have also been offended by what Christ did while he was here on earth.

I am glad to hear that Zondervan pulled Jud's "Deadly Viper" book. I have attended Central Christian Church in Las Vegas (Jud Wilhite’s church) on numerous occassions. I have found that Church also makes fun of other ethnic groups, the Latinos and Italians, in their videos. During one of the Christmas videos (before Deadly Viper came out), they even portrayed Italians tieing up one of their family members, duck taping his mouth, and throwing him the truck of a car. They were portraying them as mafia. I tried to address the issue with the powers that be at Central. All I got was a backlashing from them, or a "go away" attitude from them. All they did was started laughing, I don't think God is laughing!

Also, they play secular music which in no way worships God. They are worshipping themselves for being able to play the songs (such as I Want To Hold Your Hand, Rocking Around the Christmas Tree, and Don’t Stop Believing). I truly believe that those songs do not belong in a church. They are just showing that Central is part of this world and not part of God's Kingdom. It is very rarely that you hear Jesus' name mentioned during the service.

Needless to say, I no longer associate myself with Central. After attending there, it’s hard to believe that there is a God who loves and cares for you.

gar - thanks for your comment here! i really appreciate that we can both acknowledge that though we may not completely agree with each other, we still respect each others stances on this.

i am honestly disappointed at the hate that has been slung at both Prof. Rah & Eugene. they are VERY respectable men and do NOT deserve what they are getting right now. though i may not appreciate how Prof. Rah brought it all out in the beginning, he sincerely apologized and people should extend grace.

both of those men (along with others) have done a great job at bringing awareness to a culture who lacks it. i know i have learned a lot from them... and will continue to.

peace to you today, gar!

thank you for your comment here, chris. i love reading everyone's perspective.

i think hate has been slung in both directions. not only have mike and jud been attacked, but so have many of the AA community leaders. i don't think this is appropriate OR loving in any way.

none of us are innocent of this. the good news is all CAN be remedied. God is in the business of miracles and i believe He can heal even this.
