This conversation happened on our way up the porch to our house after I picked him up from school today.
He saw our pumpkins on the porch and here was our exchange:
Chance: “Mommy… black paint and white paint makes Asian!”
Me: “Um… actually Chance, black and white make gray, not Asian. Asians are people like you and me.”
C: “But the punkins are like you, me and Daddy… and we’re Asian.”
M: “Oh… I guess you’re right then.”
*pause as I open the front door*
C: ”Well… maybe Daddy is not a punkin because he is white and I’m more Asian than him.”
That’s when I bent down and hugged my Asian child to try to muffle my laughter.
But can I say that I’m glad he doesn’t say most of this in public… though I guess it’s public now that I blogged it.

So, how are you planning on breaking it to Brian that he’s not Asian enough?
Shhhh, Seth – Brian thinks he’s Asian. Let’s just let the man think what he wants.
Awww.. the curiosity and figuring outs of little kids (and some young adults in their 20s…).. he almost understands what’s going on. The pumpkins can be asian.. or white. Whatever we want.
Hmmm. I wonder if Chance will think that all pumpkins are asian now?
I love his deductive reasoning. What a sweet boy. So excited to see him!
That is too adorable! Mikaelyn calls herself “Gold”. She says Daddy is “Brown” and I’m “Gold” as well. If we try to explain to her that Mommy is White and Daddy is Brown and that she’s a little of both, she yells at us that she is GOLD! HAHA! The only problem though is that anytime she see’s a black man, she says, “Look Mommy, he’s brown like my Daddy”! Very audible for anybody around to hear…oh, I tell you, these kiddos will say just about anything!

I’m confused because I don’t like Asians. But I like Chance…?
