judgement is Gods deal, no one else's. Its not a greater sin than any one elses. I dont know this guys reaction or sincerity, but I do feel its being tolerated. when I see issues like deciet in church all that happens is some embarassment, maybe some shuns and a step down from a position. thats all. a "band-aid fix. It seems to me that the mentality is this... go to church and do anything you want, theres not much consequence because grace has become a "its ok, i still love you" thing. So church gets worked because it uses grace, but in the wrong way. this guy not only should be embarassed but do alot of community service or something to give back to people.
Of course he should be loved and forgiven but not overlooked or just a small "bad"hes got to know this is not ok, and so should everyone watching. Grace is beautiful but not a "get out of jail free card".
I know this is not fully his doing because sin is not what we were made with. However, like all of us, he chose to go through with it to this extent and it is not ok. God has done great things through his bad choices, but Mike G. getting a small consequence is not helpful for him as a person growing in faith or for how church is viewed as a whole.
Definately love Mike/his family but there are consequences. God has paid them, "but there are still rules" I think church ignores that because we want to feel good about ourselves for showing grace.

I totally hear what you guys are saying. This shouldn't be without consequence.

Melva - You are so right! God has shown us over and over again in the Bible that He uses less than qualified people in extraordinary ways.

Eric - some churches are a "safe haven" and others are a parking lot of judgment. It really depends on the community. Other than his sin being SO public and devastating, I don't see how his sin is any worse than ours. Do you feel that this mans huge lie has been tolerated? If so, how?

true! But church has been a "safe haven" for messed up stuff. when is enough enough? Grace is the sweetest thing ever but it should be done in a way that Honors God! so alot of grace in a firm way. Lying, among other things, cannot be tolerated.

It is time for all of us to remember that, "But for the Grace of God go I.' All of us live with the consequences of our actions whether good or bad, however we don't and shouldn't have to live with the judgement of our fellow believers. I am so glad that the Lord has thrown my sin, as far as the east is from the west. Love covers all." Body of Christ" what an opportunity to rise up in love and pray for not only Mike but his wife and family too. As for the song, God used a donkey, it not inconceivable to me He would use a sinner to bring about His heart and bless and comfort many with it Love and blessings Melva.

These are all great comments. It looks like most of us have grace for him... but I agree... every time I hear this song or sing it, I think of the lie behind it.

Maybe because it's still so fresh. I'm praying that reminder lessons soon.
