Trick or Treat?

This was the first year Chance really actually understood what it meant to go trick-or-treating.

When I was growing up, my Mom never let us go trick-or-treating because she believed it was the devil’s holiday AND she really didn’t trust people to give out candy that wouldn’t be poisoned.  Maybe the real reason was we were too poor to be able to afford costumes for three girls every year and she was too tired to take us around the neighborhood by the time she got home from working all day (she was a single mom, you know).

All that to say, I think some of us are experiencing repression from that.  Here’s a screenshot of an iChat I had with my sister, Renee, today:

Actually… Renee made a really cute interactive picture deal on Facebook for Chance.  She dressed up like a bunny, took pictures of herself hiding all over her apartment with her tail or bunny ears sticking out and had him look for her.  It was SO hilarious… and Chance had a lot of fun playing along.

After dinner, we went to our friends, Paula & Jason’s, house.  Anna and Paula took all three kids out while Jason, Brian and I stayed behind.  I really wanted to see Chance in action, but this whole “bedrest” thing cross cancels trick-or-treating :)  I’m so thankful for Paula and Anna for walking them around and keeping them safe.

Here are some pictures from tonight’s adventure:

Chance really believed he was stronger with his “muscleman-boobies” on.  He’s growling in these pictures.  I wish I had video.

Here’s his “stash” of candy.  That’s a FULL sized candy bar on top.  It came from the people that bought our old house from us.  Apparently, the neighborhood children are glad we moved out, LOL!  BTW… someone handed out mini-sized play-doh which I think is BRILLIANT!!!  You can sort of see it on the top right.  There’s also Asian crackers at the bottom left of the picture.  Hope that house doesn’t get egged tonight.

Here’s Chance with his best friend, Morgan (who’s a unicorn… or a little girl riding a unicorn who looks dead in this photo… I dunno) and Lukas.  They have all known each other since birth so it’s really fun for them to go out and do these things together.

This is how Chance wore his mask the whole time.  He didn’t want it over his face, so he wore it backwards.  Whatever… it worked, right?

Now, we have to portion out his candy so he doesn’t go into a sugar coma the next few days.  Last year, after the first day, he totally forgot about his candy and we just ended up throwing it all away after a few days.  We’ll see how it goes this year.

What was the best AND worst Halloween treat you’ve collected over the years?

What an adventure! I’m so glad Chance had fun! My parents never let us celebrate Halloween for the same reason either so I can relate.
