Worship Confessional – Father’s Day Edition

I’m not really sure why I forget “holidays”… but I do.  I’m known for not remembering birthdays, anniversaries… I’ve even at times forgotten it’s Christmas the morning of.  I’ve just never been a “holiday/tradition” kind of a person.

But I want to be.

My July Calendar

The good thing is this:  I consistently remember the special day THE DAY BEFORE… so I always just celebrate it the day before.  That way, I don’t forget it… I’m just early.

Honestly… I depend heavily on my calendar.  Not only do I have everything scheduled on my MacBook Pro and iPhone with pop-up reminders(they sync… so I guess it doesn’t count), but I also have a calendar on my fridge (yep… that’s in on the left) that I copy all our important family stuff out on.

Redundant, I know… but it works for us.

All this to say… IT’S FATHER’S DAY!

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY all you procreating male friends of mine.

Now… onto my worship confessional today.

Today, at Church! at Bethany, our Sunday Setlist was:

  1. Better Than Life – Marty Sampson
  2. Open the Eyes of My Heart – Paul Baloche
  3. You’ll Come – Brooke Fraser
  4. Heart of Worship – Matt Redman
  5. I Worship You – Generation Unleashed
  6. How Great Is Our God – Chris Tomlin
  7. Jesus Paid It All – Kristian Stanfill

Renedage Joy

We started our new series, “Renegade Joy” today, based off of the book of Philippians.  Philippians is probably my top three favorite books of the Bible… so I’m pretty excited about this series.  I feel like I really TRULY learn something new every time I read this book… but I guess that would ring true in most everything I read in the Bible.

Highlights of the Day:  The start of a new series.  Is it just me, or is there always something exciting about “new”?  I felt like Matt hit it out of the park today.  I really took many of the things he said in his sermon to heart.  Today’s main point:  Joy vs. Happiness.  Happiness is fleeting.  Good to be reminded of that.

Lowlights of the Day:  Chance and Paxton woke up sick this morning.  That’s a HUGE bummer especially since it’s Father’s Day.  Since I can’t just call in sick on Sunday mornings, Brian had to stay home with the boys while I went to lead worship at church.  I missed having my family at church with me.  Also, addressing in my own mind that we cannot depend on our circumstances to realize our deepest joys.  This is SO opposite of what Hollywood tells us in the movies.  Just sayin’…

How was YOUR Sunday?

We were both in the family separated by sickness camp this morning.

Though admittedly my family is currently quite a bit smaller than yours.

Jenni, gotta say, it’s REALLY good to have your worship confessional’s back in the blogosphere :)
